There is a supermarket for supplies right next to the bus station, through the small mall with a busy net cafe. From here, a bus can be taken to Mashue for around 1000 pesos. If walking, head out of the bus station and turn right ( south ), at the next road turn right ( west ) and walk for about 4 blocks then follow the signs south (left) to the town centre. Pick up 'Ramerez' street and head south until dead-ending into 'Henriquez.' Here, turn right ( west ) and continue as it heads out of town past a cemetery and garbage dump with many pigs and dogs. The road goes through farmland and the passing traffic on the road is mostly logging trucks and taxis. In the distance is it possible to see many volcanoes across the plains below. Drinking water is difficult to find so fill up before leaving La Union.
The road out of town is signed for 'Trumao', a southern turnoff from the road to Alerce Costero national monument.
