Passing around the bend, not crossing the ford to the free campspot, leads under a gateway and through private land. This is the road to Hueicolla, which is just a few kilometres further. After passing a small school, the road soon enters an area of housing where the river empties out into a bay.
Hueicolla has little to offer the hiking visitor. There is no supermercado and no public transport. Maria's hospedaje, towards the southern end of the town, is the only place in town that offers cafe food along with cigarettes and chocolate bars. It is signed just off the main road. The majority of houses are rented to holiday makers from La Union who bring their 4x4 vehicles over the Alerce Costero route to get here.
There is a campground a kilometre past Maria's a few hundred metres from the ocean in a beautiful bay.
