c. Pilpilcahuin to Mashue

At a fork in the road with the only sign being one for the Carabineros (without an arrow indicating direction) take the right fork. Almost all of the logging trucks go left here and the volume of traffic really dies down. This road leads to Pilpilcahuin, which is shown on the map as a dead end but in reality is the correct route for the Alerce Costero national monument and the Pacific Ocean.

Further along the road another unmarked road splits off, stick to the straighter left hand route. After 3 km from the first fork, a Carabineros post is reached. This is Mashue and is where the bus from La Union terminates.
