One of the many wonderful things about Argentina is the friendly and helpful officials around the country, from the bullet-proof vested police in Buenos Aires we met at the start of our time here to the border guard on the way out they were all excellent. Always keen to help, patient with our language and always friendly. The site of the border post is about 1Km from El Manso and 8Km from the actual border. The post is slightly off the main track, past a red and white sign on a tree, after signing out you need to return to the tree and continue along the path to the right. The setting of the post must be one of the best in the world, rolling green meadows, mountains climbing dramatically in the near background and a relaxed atmosphere. If, like us you arrive at the post towards the end of the day you should probably get your passport stamped for the following day, unlike us. It didn't cause any problems at the Chile side but it could have done and it was mentioned. The path winds through the centre of a few farms, past the buildings and through the gates. Ask the locals for directions - "Donde esta la senda para Chile, por favor?" served us pretty well.
After the farms the path becomes hilly and treed all the way to the border
