The walk to Cochamo is fairly quick from the junction although the cars kick up quite a lot of dust on the way. It passes a few outlying houses and offers spectacular views of the fjord and a volcano on a far shore. Once Cochamo is reached staying with the main route brings you to a small supermarket with the standard fare available on the right of the road. It is marked as 'Supermercado y Ferretería'. The owner is a very welcoming lady, she speaks no english but has relatives in Canada and likes foreign visitors. There is no bank or Cambio ( currency exchange ) in Cochamo, so it is best to have 2000 pesos per person in your pocket to get the bus to Puerto Montt if required. It takes around 2hrs. The bus runs on sundays though less frequently than the rest of the week when there is one every two hours. Tickets are purchased on the bus, which can be hailed anywhere as it passes along the main road in Cochamo.
Comacho itself is a fairly small fishing village with a few supermarkets, post office ( Correo ), wooden church and information office. It also has cabins, hospedajes and a camp site available for those not just passing through.
